Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti has told Members of Parliament to stop discussing allegations surrounding the handling of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s body on the floor of the House without verified facts.
Madam Mutti warned that claims suggesting the body was “stolen” must not be raised in Parliament unless backed by credible evidence, stressing the need to avoid speculation on such a sensitive matter.
“The issue of the body having been stolen should not be discussed in here if you do not have facts. Please, let us not speculate,
Those who feel the need to discuss the matter of the body should find other avenues and not here.” warned Ms. Mutti
Her remarks come amid growing public and political tension following disputes over the handling of the late President’s remains in South Africa.
The issue has drawn strong reactions from different stakeholders, with some calling for transparency, while others have urged restraint as legal processes continue to unfold.
