MAZABUKA Central Constituency independent candidate Brenda Mwamungule has withdrawn from the race and pledged to rally behind UPND candidate Vincent Lilanda.
Announcing her decision during a rally to launch UPND campaigns in Mazabuka Central yesterday, Mwamungule apologised to the party for contesting as an independent.
She said the decision to withdraw was in the interest of the party and to support President Hakainde Hichilema.
Mwamungule also called on Mazabuka residents and her supporters to rally behind President Hichilema and Lilanda.

JUST TO UNLOCK YOUR MIND
Brenda Mwamungule and Vincent Lilanda's task is to ensure long serving UPND member and now "dumpsited" independent candidate Gary Nkombo does not defend the seat he's held since 2006.
Gary Nkombo opted to go independent after saying he felt like he was at a dumbsite - telling the people of Mazabuka that he cannot refuse to be cleansed since they decided to pick him from the dumpsite by paying his nomination fee to stand as Independent.
Initially Nkombo did not want to defend his seat when he decided not to apply for adoption under the UPND ticket. This was verified by the party’s chairman for Elections and Campaigns Likando Mufalali who said Mr. Nkombo was not fired. He was not pushed to the dumbsite. He just did not apply. "When I checked the list of those who applied for Mazabuka, his name was not there," said Mufalali in an RCV interview.
