Muchinga Province is preparing to host President Hakainde Hichilema on 19th March 2026, where he is expected to commission the newly constructed Nakonde One Stop Border Post (OSBP) a transformative infrastructure project aimed at strengthening trade between Zambia and the United Republic of Tanzania.

According to a statement issued by Muchinga Provincial Minister Hon. Njavwa Simutowe, the OSBP is set to significantly reduce clearance times, cut business costs, and improve efficiency at one of Zambia’s busiest trade corridors. The facility is a key anchor in the New Dawn Government’s agenda to enhance cross-border trade and decentralize economic activity across provinces.

The Nakonde border is a critical gateway for imports and exports flowing through the Tanzam Corridor, particularly essential goods, fuel, agricultural products, and regional cargo destined for SADC markets.

The OSBP is expected to streamline border procedures by integrating Zambian and Tanzanian border agencies under one framework, enabling faster movement of goods and people. Minister Simutowe said the President’s personal commissioning of the project underscores government’s commitment to accelerating economic development in Muchinga Province and strengthening bilateral ties with Tanzania.

The province has urged residents particularly in Nakonde to welcome the Head of State in a peaceful and united manner as the region positions itself as a major transit and commercial hub.

The President will arrive in Nakonde on Thursday before proceeding to the OSBP site for the official commissioning ceremony.
