Out of the total 40 members of parliament who have been elected under the proportional representation (PR) electoral system, 26 are women.
There are 20 slots for women, 15 for youths and five for persons with disability, which have been distributed as follows:

The MPR was made possible after the successful passing of Bill 7 last year in December.
Despite strong critique of the Bill, so far it has only yielded benefits for both opposition and rulling.
But the MPR has now given UPND so many representatives in Parliament as the election of MPs was based on the percentage of presidential results nationwide. This gave UPND to completely dominate the list.
