ZAMBIA, ISRAEL STRENGTHEN TECH TIES

ZAMBIA, ISRAEL STRENGTHEN TECH TIES

Brave Heart News | 11 February 2026

Zambia is pushing its innovation drive to the next level, and this time, it is doing so with one of the world’s most advanced tech nations.

Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix Mutati has held a high-level meeting with Israel’s Ambassador to Zambia, Her Excellency Ofra Farhi, setting the stage for deeper cooperation in innovation, skills development, and advanced technology.

Mutati said Zambia is determined to grow a real innovation ecosystem, one that mirrors Israel’s globally admired culture of creativity, entrepreneurship, and rapid technological progress.

He said young Zambian innovators must not only have ideas but also mentorship, exposure, and capacity-building - areas where Israel has proven expertise. Later this month, Zambia will send teams for engagements with Israeli experts to design practical steps toward this new partnership.

A major highlight of the discussion was the revival of Zambia’s satellite technology agenda. Mutati explained that talks initially held two years ago had been brought back to life and will now be pushed toward implementation through the Remote Sensing Centre under his Ministry.

For Zambia, satellite technology is more than a prestige project. It is a critical tool for national development, from environmental monitoring to agriculture, disaster response, and planning. The Minister also connected technological advancement with Zambia's economic goals.

He noted that scaling up mining output to three million tonnes will require a highly skilled workforce capable of operating in a modern, digital mining environment.

The same applies to efforts to eliminate the country’s energy deficit and transform agriculture into a productive, technology-powered industry.

Mutati shared that he has personally seen how Israeli farmers produce astonishing yields on relatively small pieces of land, proof that the right technology can transform even the toughest agricultural conditions. Zambia, he said, stands to benefit enormously from such knowledge transfer.

On her part, Ambassador Farhi warmly embraced the proposed cooperation areas. She described the partnership as a “win-win,” saying Israel is ready to support Zambia in capacity building, technology development, mentorship for young entrepreneurs, satellite innovation, and cybersecurity. She noted that Israel has deep expertise in these areas and sees Zambia as an ideal partner for practical and results-oriented collaboration.

The ambassador also pointed to the renewed diplomatic momentum between the two countries following the opening of embassies and recent presidential-level engagements. She said interest within Israel to invest in Zambia’s development programmes is growing, and the coming follow-up meeting will refine the exact areas of cooperation.

Both sides agreed that it is time to translate goodwill into measurable progress, especially in skills development, youth empowerment, and sustainable economic growth.

JUST TO UNLOCK YOUR MIND

Israel is often called the “Start-Up Nation” - a small country with one of the highest numbers of tech start-ups per capita in the world. Much of its success comes from a strong innovation culture, military-driven tech training, and a national strategy that puts young people at the centre of technological progress.

For Zambia, tapping into that model could mean more than just learning new techniques. It could redefine how we approach skills development, modern agriculture, mining technology, and digital industries.

If this cooperation is managed well - with accountability, clear goals, and consistent follow-through - it may become one of Zambia’s most impactful tech partnerships in decades.

Unlocking minds is the beginning; transforming the nation is the goal.
