ZAMBIA SO FAR HAVING PEACEFUL ELECTION PERIOD DESPITE ISOLATED VIOLENCE

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) monitored 218 electoral events across the country between May and June 2026.

159 events (73%) were recorded as peaceful.
59 events (27%) involved various forms of electoral misconduct or tension.

Recorded incidents included:

12 cases of political intimidation.
11 cases of political violence.
11 cases of tense political situations with potential to escalate into violence.
10 cases involving restrictions on political activities.

TIZ says that while the majority of electoral activities remained peaceful, the recorded cases highlight the need for stronger measures to protect the credibility and integrity of the electoral process ahead of the August 2026 General Elections.

The organisation has called on political parties to discipline members involved in violence, intimidation, hate speech, and destruction of campaign materials, while urging law enforcement agencies to professionally and impartially investigate reported electoral offences.

JUST TO UNLOCK YOUR MIND
Most of the possible electoral misconduct activities heavily happened involving UPND members especially during and after the nomination process.

Gary Nkombo's case took center stage and trending the most.

For opposition leaders, they mostly complained about "being denied to campaign by police" and there have been almost zero records of physical harm of opposition leaders so far.
