A late-night road traffic accident in Lusaka has left a police motorcyclist nursing injuries and a private motorist facing several charges after allegedly cutting in front of an oncoming escort motorbike.
The Zambia Police Service says the crash happened around 23:00 hours on Monday, April 27, 2026, along Mosi-oa-Tunya Road, opposite Puma Filling Station.
According to a police statement, Inspector Kwibisa Mbuye, 39, was on a BMW escort motorbike when a Nissan Mitsuoka driven by 42-year-old Madalitso Phiri of Chalala allegedly cut into his lane, resulting in a collision.
Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi described the incident as avoidable, saying the motorist acted recklessly.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the Nissan Mitsuoka moved abruptly in front of the police motorbike, causing the crash,”
He added that Inspector Mbuye sustained slight injuries and was rushed to Maina Soko Military Hospital for treatment.
The police motorbike suffered extensive front-end damage, while Phiri escaped unhurt. His vehicle has since been impounded for a technical examination.
Chilabi confirmed that Phiri has been charged and arrested for five offences under the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002, including dangerous driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a road licence, no fitness certificate, and no third-party insurance.
“The suspect is expected to appear in court soon,” Chilabi stated.
Mr. Childbirth also confirmed the driver of the motorbike was rushed to Maina Soko hospital where he is receiving medical treatment.

Dalisoul (Mwana Wamukomboni) is one of the most influential voices to emerge from Zambia’s urban music scene. His journey began on the Copperbelt in 2007, where he worked alongside fellow artists Dandy Crazy and Baska Baska, forming a creative trio that helped shape the sound of that era.
His breakout was swift. By 2008, he had already earned national recognition, winning Zambian Musician of the Year a title he went on to win again in 2009 and 2013 at the Kwacha Music Awards. This cemented him as a household name and one of the most consistent performers of his generation.
Dalisoul’s music blends relatable storytelling, street energy, and a distinctive Copperbelt flavour, earning him fans across borders. Over the years, he has taken his performances to Malawi, Botswana, and across Zambia, proving his appeal beyond local boundaries.
His legacy remains tied to his ability to speak for the “komboni” spirit uplifting ordinary people through music that feels lived, honest, and unmistakably Zambian.
Away from music, he is professionally in the hospitality industry and is so passionate about it.
