ECZ SUSPENDS MUNDUBILE'S PARTY CAMPAIGNS IN KAPUTA

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has slammed the brakes on campaign activities for Brian Mundubile's National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) in Kaputa Constituency, saying the suspension takes effect immediately.

The Commission says the decision follows acts of political violence involving the party, which allegedly led to the death of a member of another political party.

In a statement issued on Friday 3rd July, ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said the suspension is indefinite and will remain in place until the Commission completes its review of the matter.

ECZ also turned its attention to Magoye East Constituency in Mazabuka District, where Stanley Sakala lost his life in Chivuna Village during another election-related incident.

The Commission said it is still waiting for a final report from the Zambia Police Service before deciding what action to take.

ECZ says it is worried that political violence is beginning to rear its head in some parts of the country as campaigns gather momentum.

The Commission has warned political parties and independent candidates to play by the rules and respect the Electoral Code of Conduct.

It says anyone who chooses violence over politics should be ready to face the consequences.

ECZ has further reminded contestants that it will not hesitate to use the powers given to it under the Electoral Process (Amendment) Act No. 12 of 2026 against those who break the law.

JUST TO UNLOCK YOUR MIND

When ECZ suspends campaign activities, it does not mean a political party has been kicked out of the election. It simply means the affected party is temporarily barred from holding rallies, roadshows, processions and other campaign activities in the affected constituency.

The decision is meant to cool down tensions and protect lives while investigations continue. If a party ignores the suspension and continues campaigning, it risks attracting even tougher sanctions from the Electoral Commission.

Zambia is set head to the polls on Thursday, 13th August 2026. The race now looks like a two-horse race between Brian Mundubile and president Hakainde Hichilema with Harry Kalaba and Fred M’membe appearing 3rd and 4th respectively according to campaign moods on the ground judging from the crowds being pulled by every candidate.
